The entrance gate to the farm has an inscription in the stone 'œOh Highford how peaceful art thou!'. Clovelly, the picturesque fishing village, harbour and visitors' centre is 5 minutes drive. Charles Kingsley lived there whilst writing 'œThe Water Babies'.

Drive the other way into the Hartland Peninsula circumvented by the South West Coast path with spectacular cliff walks and secluded bays, like Shipload Bay . The lighthouse at Hartland Point is at the crossroads between the Atlantic Ocean and the start of the Bristol Channel . Over the water is the lure of Lundy Island and a day trip to remember. Surfing lessons can be taken in either Westward Ho (15 mins drive) or Bude in Cornwall (25 mins drive). Bike riding on the Tarka Trail is also available in Bideford (15 mins drive).
