Beautiful Georgian House With Wonderful Views, Delicious Breakfasts And Evening Meals

Luxury bed and breakfast in a beautiful Georgian house near Totnes with high quality evening meals.Ideal as a base for exploring the South Hams, Dartmoor, Dartmouth, and the South Devon coast. Well-behaved pets are also welcome. The Old Rectory at Diptford is one of Devon’s finest Georgian houses, with breathtaking views across the Avon valley to Dartmoor. It provides the perfect setting for a relaxed break in the South Hams, surely the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in the South West of England. Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are within easy reach and nearby is the Elizabethan town of Totnes.

But while Diptford enjoys complete tranquillity in an idyllic rural setting, it is only ten minutes by car to the A 38, making daily excursions to all parts of Devon and Cornwall easy to undertake. We have lived in the Old Rectory for 12 years and have only recently opened our home to paying guests. We want you to enjoy the house and its lovely garden as much as we do. Everything will be done to help you enjoy your stay. .

Rooms Description

There are three light, elegant and spacious bedrooms, each with a beautiful bathroom. A television is available in each bedroom – although we will take it away if you prefer to admire the view and listen to the birdsong instead. As animal lovers ourselves we welcome dogs, provided they don’t chase our own ducks and hens or our neighbours’ sheep ! We can provide packed lunches, cream teas, Wellington boots and helpful advice on where to go and what to see. We hope you will come and stay.

Specialities

All our meals are served in the magnificent drawing room, with French windows overlooking the garden and the moor Breakfast Fruit juice followed by fresh fruit salad served with thick yoghurt, full English breakfast using local sausages, bacon and our own eggs. In addition we always try and offer a special breakfast dish such as organic salmon fishcakes, eggs benedict or baked egg with smoked salmon. Evening Meals Jill, a Leiths-trained cook, likes to use the best of what is local and in season. Dishes offered embrace many styles of cooking. Expect lemon and chicken risotto; a melting Greek lamb and coriander casserole or fillet of beef with home made horseradish sauce. We get our meat from first class butchers or farming friends, our cheese comes from local makers such as Sharpham dairy and vegetables are the best we can provide, some of them from Riverford organic farm at Dartington.
