We believe that the original scripts for the Archers radio programmes were written at the PackhorseThe Packhorse was built in medieval times and started life as a resting place for the packhorse trains that carried goods between Dartmoor and the trading towns of the coast. Nowadays the inn offers a safe haven from the the intrusions of modern life and a place to enjoy old world hospitality, good food, real ale and enjoyable company. We are conveniently located in the centre of the village of South Brent, close to the A38 Expressway between Exeter and Plymouth.
We pride ourselves on our good home cooked food made from recipes gathered during 12 years cruising the Inidan Ocean, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. All of our meals are made using fresh locally sourced produce wherever possible. Before or after your meal, relax with a drink in our comfortable and traditional bar where, rumour has it, the original scripts for the Archers radio programmes were written.
We offer a choice of single, double and twin en-suite rooms each equipped with colour television and tea and coffee making facilities.
The South Brent Folk Club meets in the pub every week, alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Functions can be arranged in one of our two dining rooms.
