Shelley's - A 'hotel Of the Year' - Lynmouth

A 'Hotel of the Year' Which? Guide to Good Hotels 04 - Stay where the 19C English Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley honeymooned during the Summer of 1812.

Shelley's is an award winning hotel offering luxurious guest accommodation with breath taking sea views in Lynmouth, Devon. The hotel has been established for over 200 years and takes its name from the 19th century romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley, who honeymooned here in 1812. The property has been refurbished to a high standard throughout yet still retains its unique character and elegance. Lynmouth is a picturesque village lying at the confluence of the East and West Lyn rivers on the beautiful Devon coast. The town originally grew around the herring fishing industry and became a holiday resort during the Victorian era.

Exmoor National Park surrounds the town and is unique in that it has the largest concentration of red deer in the UK. The park has the longest stretch of wooded coastline in the country, stretching ten miles along the coast from Porlock to Countisbury. Exmoor ponies are a unique species, the closest breed to the original wild horses which roamed Britain in prehistoric times. There are only a few hundred on Exmoor, they are rarer than the giant Chinese panda. There are a great many outdoor activities just waiting to be enjoyed including walking and orienteering, horse riding, cycling, fishing, mountain biking, fishing and surfing to name but a few.
