The restaurant enjoys delightful views across the Bovey Valley to the granite outcrop of Haytor.traditional country hotel dating from the 1950's where many admirable traditions are still important. From its elevated position on the edge of the historic town of Bovey Tracey, Coombe Cross has magnificent views of Dartmoor National Park and is ideally located to form a base for exploring the whole of South Devon and Eastern Cornwall. Friendly and informal, Coombe Cross has for many years offered guests a restful and relaxed holiday amidst some of the most naturally beautiful surroundings in the British Isles. The hotel is south facing and set in its own mature gardens with the South Devon coastline just 12 miles away. You could not wish for a better location for a short break or relaxing holiday. For peace and quiet, simply relax in the hotel gardens or explore the moors. Alternatively why not try out our modern indoor swimming pool and leisure complex. Relax in the sauna, top up your tan in the solarium, or just while away your time in the spa pool. For those more active, a fitness suite featuring a variety of exercise equipment is just the job to keep in trim
The restaurant, with its comfortable chairs and crisp linen tablecloths, enjoys the delightful view across the Bovey Valley to the wooded, bracken covered hills up to the rugged granite outcrop of Haytor. Service is friendly and informal whilst the table d'hote menus offer a variety of carefully prepared, predominantly traditional, homemade English dishes complemented by other contemporary combinations from around the world. The wine cellar offers the opportunity to explore the variety of the world's wine styles by offering vintages from the majority of the popular wine making countries with some available in half bottles and others by the glass. At breakfast time a buffet of cereals, fresh fruit, fruit juice, yoghurt and preserves welcomes our guests whilst freshly brewed coffee and tea get the day off to a good start. Traditional cooked dishes are prepared to order and served hot from the kitchen using free range eggs and other locally sourced ingredients.
All 22 bedrooms are comfortably furnished, tastefully decorated and designated 'non-smoking'. Each one has a bath and shower en-suite and is equipped with all the usual facilities including hospitality tray, colour television, trouser press and radio alarm. Many rooms are double bedded but there are a number of twins (some of which zip together to give very nice 'kingsize' beds) and a couple of single beds too. A good number of the rooms have lovely views across the garden up to the moor and three or four rooms are situated at ground level which are well suited to those who struggle with stairs. We have one large family room on the first floor for up to four people but we also have a pair of adjoining rooms which provide a very useful family suite on the ground floor. This comprises of one twin and one double room each with en-suite facilities. One room has internal access whilst the other opens directly onto the car park which helps when considering the volume of luggage required for family trips.
Hotel guests are welcome to enjoy the indoor leisure complex. Facilities include a sauna, sunbed, whirlpool spa and fitness room. Dogs are accepted by prior arrangement but are not permitted in public rooms or the garden. A charge of £4.50 per night applies.
