We are talking one of the TOP TEN beaches in the world right here in North Devon's Woolacombe! It suits for both family holidays and watersports fanatics, particularly surfers.

The three miles of spectacular golden sands stretch all the way from Putsborough, to the south of Woolacombe to the village of Woolacombe itself. Beach walking and beach jogging are on the menu here, with perfect flat golden sand. You'll see lots of beach walkers and joggers throughout the year. Woolacombe beach's particular appeal to families is it's safe and shallow waters, and in the main summer season the area is fully lifeguarded for your safety. Woolacombe was voted Family Holiday destination of the year in 1999 by the English Tourism Council!

There's a choice of self-catering, B&B and luxury hotel accommodations in Woolacombe. If you're focus is on walking this stretch of the North Devon Coast, as opposed to surfing where Woolacombe and Croyde will be the better choice, why not base yourself in the charming village of Mortehoe just up from Woolacombe. It's a pretty North Devon stone built village and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. There's a heritage centre, a small 13th century church and a scattering of most attractive tea rooms and inns/pubs. Many of the dramatic coastal walks in this area start from Mortehoe and has it's own truly dramatic coastline, along with a fascinating maritime history explored in the Mortehoe Heritage Centre.

There are plenty of car parks scattered along this stretch of the North Devon Coast, offering opportunities to start your walk at various spots. It's well worth branching out to Putsborough Sands and Baggy Point for some of the best coastal walking in Britain. Putsborough Sands is made of three miles of superb golden sand stretching all the way up to Woolacombe. Putsborough has a few amenities, perfect for a rest from long coastal walking, including one small shop. The middle part of the beach by black rock is a particularly scenic spot.
