The Plymouth Pilgrims and their preparations for sail in Plymouth are given due attention at the superb Plymouth Mayflower Exhibition on the Quay opposite their own monument, the Mayflower steps. Plymouth Quay and the attractions around historic Plymouth Hoe and Plymouth Sound are wonderfully accessible.
The Quay is crammed with chic bars and fish restaurants, with a backdrop of narrow side streets full of specialist shops on the clothing and quirky gift side. Plymouth's Central Museum and Art Gallery is a diverse mix of exhibitions on Plymouth past and present, with a real focus on social history and the list is endless for things to do, including an aquarium, boat trips out from the sound, walks along the historic Plymouth Hoe promenade, lots of quayside cafes, historic Elizabethan Merchant homes, Sir Francis Drake landmarks, a revamped deco lido on Plymouth's front and the Plymouth Gin exhibition.
