Plymouth Tourist Information
Plymouth Devon, is an absolute joy for a Devon city break, or day trip taking in the many attractions the city has to offer. Hop on the Plymouth the trail of those Plymouth Pilgrims who boarded the Mayflower in September 1620 and anchored at Cape Cod 66 days later, and now ingrained in American consciousness. The Plymouth Pilgrims and their preparations for sail in Plymouth are given due credit of course at the superby Plymouth Mayflower Exhibition on the Quay opposite their own monument, the Mayflower steps. Think again on Plymouth as contemporary Plymouth, as you'd expect from a contemporary university city, it's alive and kicking. Plymouth Quay and the attractions around historic Plymouth Hoe and Plymouth Sound are wonderfully accessible.
The Quay is simply a joy, crammed with chic bars and fish restaurants, with a backdrop of narrow side streets full of 'off the wall' specialist shops on the clothing and quirky gift side. Plymouth's Central Museum and Art Gallery is a diverse mix of exhibitions on Plymouth past and present, with a real focus on social history and the list is endless for things to do, including an aquarium, boat trips out from the sound, walks along the historic Plymouth Hoe promenade, lots of de-luxe cafes, historic Elizabethan Merchant homes, Sir Francis Drake titbits, a revamped deco lido on Plymouth's front and the Plymouth Gin exhibition. Plymouth is more than a pleasant surprise!
