Churston Cove, Brixham. A secluded, quiet blue flag beachTorquay, Paignton and Brixham, and the English Riviera coastline in between each of these main Torbay holiday hotspots, has an amazing choice of beaches. These slendid family friendly English Riviera beaches are a key reason why the area is so popular with Devon holiday makers.
Many English Riviera beaches have achieved the prestigious blue flag award for the highest quality.
Torquay beaches include Babbacombe beach, a charming samll and sheltered beach consisting of both sand and shingl. It's popular with fishing as well, and with families as there's a nice family pub right on the beach. Reach Babbacombe beach via a scenic pathway which leades down from Babbacombe Downs. Some parking is available adjacent to the beach. Between Torquay and Babbacombe lies popular Meadfoot Beach (Agatha Christie was rather fond of this beach as a child, and swam here practically every day in the Summer). Meadfoot Beach is pretty large and has superb views out to see, and across to Thatchers Rock. Meadfoot is a mix of pebble and sand, and as the tide goes out rocky areas are exposed so at low tide it's great for rock pools! Meadfoot beach is well equipped with a great terraced cafe, public toilets and a shop, as well as a scattering of beach huts. Deck chairs are also available to hire.
Oddicombe Beach adjacent to Babbacombe beach is a delightful family beach, reached by the famous Babbacombe Cliff Railway or down the steep path off Babbacombe Downs. This beach is also a mix of sand and shingle with superb family facilities including a cafe, beach shop, toilets, babychanging areas, and a first aid point and telephone.
Alternatively for a small beach try Corbyn Head. Corbyn Head beach is situated the other way along the coast path past Torre Abbey Sands. Again this is a sand and shingle beach with easy access and much less crowded than other beach options. Also at Torquay, and popular with watersports fans, particularly water skiers is Livermead Beach. It's a sand and shingle beach again, with easy access from the promenade, and well equipped with beach huts and a café. Torre Abbey Sands is the biggest of all Torquays beaches and extremely popular in the summer season. Great for families, it has shallow waters and a long stretch of golden sand. Torre Abbey Sands is also the closest to Torquay town centre, harbour and shops so all amenities are close by, with easy access to Torquay promenade. For parking head to the Fleet Walk car park or Shedden Hill car park just a few minutes away from this beach. Torre Sands is also a popular beach with windsurfers.
Paignton is a prime English Riviera family seaside resort with a choice of great beaches. Hollicombe Beach is an unspoilt sandy beach with fairly easy access, toilets and shallow waters. Alternatively Preston Sands, also a superb sandy beach is good for families with a cafe, beach shop, toilets and lots of adjacent parking.
Paignton Sands beach is the most popular and busy in the summer season. It's a long sandy beach with a scattering of rock pools and very close to Paignton town centre and Paignton Pier so you've easy access to all facilities including a choice of restaurants, cafes, take-aways, beach and holiday shops and toilets.
Between Torquay and Paignton lies glorious Goodrington Sands beach, clearly marked off the coast road. This is a superb spacious beach with lots of good facilities. There are two sections - South and North Sands, with South Sands being the closed to amenities and entertainment like amusements and the popular Quay West Waterpark. This beach is popular with families and has safe waters.
Finally in Paignton is Broadsands beach, another great long sandy beach with good facilities and good for families. Adjacent parking is ample, plus there's a beach shop, café and toilets, plus a first aid post, telephone, deckchair hire and beach huts.
Welcome to picturesque beaches indeed at Brixham. For a delightful small sand and shingle beach cove head for Churston Cove on the edge of Brixham. It's nice and quiet here in this secluded cove!
Close to Churston Cove is another picturesque cove beach called Fishcombe Cove. Again Fishcombe is secluded and quiet, but with a few more facilities such as some adjacent parking, a café, deck chair hire and toilets.
For a superb little beach close to Brixham town centre, choose Breakwater Beach. It's a large pebble and shingle beach with easy access to all of Brixham town centre amenities including pubs and inns, restaurants, ice cream shops and more! If you're looking for a really unspoilt spot head fro St mary's Bay just outside of Brixham. This is a sand and shingle beach with safe bathing waters and lots of rock pools.
The most popular beach with families visiting Brixham is Shalstone Beach, primarily because it has a great seawater swimming pool! Shoalstone beach is a combination of shingle and rock, and superb for rock pools. Facilities are excellent too, with a café, toilets, baby changing area and deck chair hire.
